Description
The split colouration of the distant Cuernos del Paine pairs well with the contrasting hues seen here at Lake Pehoé on an orangey autumn day. Fed by glaciers via the Paine River—whose name comes from the Tehuelche word for blue – Pehoé is known for its brilliant turquoise tint, muted here under grey clouds but accented by the brilliant Patagonian autumn foliage. As for the Cuernos' double-colour job, that big stripe down the middle was stripped by glaciers long ago, leaving a wide light-coloured patch of bare granite.
