Catch a red-eye flight to Tenerife and this could be your first sunrise seen from Canary Islands shores—Tejita Beach is just a stone's throw from the island's largest airport. After this stop, you have a few options. Head northeast on the TF-1 motorway towards the urban capital of Santa Cruz, west to smaller cities such as Los Cristianos and Adeje, or north to the foothills of Teide—a large volcano that's the highest point in Spain. Whichever direction you pick, you'll be in Teide's shadow—the massive mount stands right in the centre of Tenerife, with the island's major roads forming a ring around its base.
